The Underpinning of the 26-Storey "Companhia Paulista de Seguros" Building, São Paulo, Brazil

Synopsis

A description is given of work carried out in São Paulo, utilising a novel form of freezing the subsoil as the means of supporting an unevenly settling twenty-six-storey building, with the subsequent construction of new and deeper foundations and jacking the building back into its original position, but on the new foundations.

Une description est faite des travaux effectués à São Paulo, en utilisant une nouvelle méthode de congélation du sous-sol pour supporter un bâtiment de 26 étages dont le tassement n'a pas été uniforme. Les travaux ont été suivis par la construction de nouvelles fondations plus profondes et par soulèvement mécanique du bâtiment en vue de le reposer à son emplacement originel mais, cette fois, sur les nouvelles fondations.
