The Grenland Bridge completed in l996, is located about 160 km south of Oslo, Norway. The design was based upon the winning proposal from an architectural competition arranged in 1990. Even before the decision of the bridge concept was made, it was obvious that the winning proposal would be more expensive than a more traditional solution. The final design was adopted solely for aesthetic and environmental reasons. For this particular project, crossing a beautiful fjord in a heavily populated area, this extra expense was justified. |
