The reconstruction of a damaged steel bridge in the town of Albenga was necessary as a consequence of flooding in November 1994. Constraints due to the dimensions and of an historic/environmental nature demanded an unusual design and the realisation of a tied-arch bridge spanning almost 100 m. The aim of reuniting the divided town as soon as possible was achieved in 10 months with a steel structure. This paper deals with the criteria that determined the choice of structural design, the static and dynamic analyses performed, the main stages of construction, and the testing of the bridge. |
