Single-plate framing connections are widely used because of their economy of material and ease of construction. References 1, 2 and 3 present design guides that ensure their ductility and account for their moment resistance when used in symmetrical connections or with stiff supporting structures. These design procedures are applicable to connections with A307, A325 and A490 bolts used with A36 non-composite steel beams. Research completed at the University of Arizona has expanded these design guides to include (a) connections with slotted holes, (b) connections with Gr. 50 steel beams, (c) off-axis framing plates (Fig. 2) and (d) single-plate framing connections with simply supported shored and unshored composite beams. |
