Abstrait:

Rapid development in and around New Mumbai (Bombay) has led to considerable increases in traffic, well in excess of the capacities of many existing bridges. After examining various alternatives, the State Government decided to construct a new six-lane road bridge 40 m from the existing Thane Creek Road Bridge. The Second Thane Creek Road Bridge spans the tidal creek with a total length of 1,837 m and a width of 25.7 m. It carries two carriageways a median verge and two pedestrian walkways. The bridge has a total of 23 spans, with two navigational spans, each 107 m long at a height of 9 m above average high tide.
