The rate of carbon emission into the atmosphere has hit a record high in the last 20 million years. In planning, designing, and construction disciplines, sustainability is of utmost importance. With their carbon neutral and carbon negative properties, bio-composite materials have been getting more attention in the construction industry. One example is a bioaggregate concrete known as hempcrete. This bio-composite is made up of hemp hurd, the inner woody core of the hemp plant, along with a lime-based binder. This paper discusses the main advantages of hemp and ist use in making a type of concrete for construction. Besides their mechanical, insulation, durability, and other properties, the paper discusses the process of making hempcrete, various tests involved in determining the properties, and some applications in construction. |
