Abstrait: The 300-m-long (985 ft) Columbia River suspension bridge at Revelstoke, BC, is a two-lane bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway. The asphalt overlay, which comprised the original suspension spans of the deck, deteriorated with time, because of heavy traffic on the bridge and the effects of heavy salting in the winter. By the mid-1990s, lane closures for remedial work became excessive, and the MTH decided that it was time for a comprehensive rehabilitation of the bridge superstructure, including the deck. The following sections describe the resurfacing of the Columbia River Bridge at Revelstoke, which was designed to provide a nominal 30-year service life with minimal need for lane closures for maintenance.
