Engineers designing a Manhattan skyscraper with lower-floor offices and upper-floor residences found that they had to make many changes in conventional design to accommodate client needs. In addition to relocating columns and transferring loads through outrigger systems, they added a uniquely designed tuned-mass damper to counteract wind motions. |
