The findings of the building performance study conducted following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon have far-reaching implications for the engineering and building professions. The team recommends that the features of the Pentagon's design that contributed to its resiliency in the crash -- that is, continuity, redundancy, and energy-absorbing capacity -- be incorporated into certain future structural designs. |
