Abstrait:

Information and communication technology are multiplying in this era and impacting work-life balance. The discussion starts with issue related to perception of time in work life. People’s perception of time can be faster or slower due to their work environment or the activities they do. Work-life balance become blurred because many workers in big city work more than they should do. Previous research compares this phenomenon with the experience living in space. Based on it, comes a question whether architectural design can substitute timer in a work environment. In this paper, we propose an approach for start-up office with the concept time manipulation using light as medium to influence people’s perception of time. The goal is to influence people’s perception of time and increase productivity in work environment. The theory that used in this paper discusses about relationship between architecture and time and discuss the designer’s approach from design process. The design concept related to the theory then tested on human perception and applied on architectural syntax of building. Using concept-based framework with domain transfer to represent movement of time in building design through experience of space. The design prioritizes the psychology and value of time of the workers.
