The project was prepared for roofing the hall of a Hotel in Caserta (Italy), taking into account the constraints given by the structural supports which had to be located on the top of four existing buildings subjected to earthquake hazard. The solution for correctly supporting the roof was found by using two-way sliding bearings on the top of three of the perimeter buildings and a stiff connection with the fourth one, thus avoiding the important coupling of different structural parts while taking into account the dynamic behaviour of all of them. The structural conceptual design took into account two different solutions which could fulfil the stringent dynamic conditions at the supports due to the seismic action. |
