Abstrait:

A 120 m tall statue of Buddha was recently completed in Ushiku City, about 50 km northeast of Tokyo, Japan. The statue is located in a large cemetery owned by a religious group. The figure of Buddha, overlaid with 6 mm thick plates of bronze, is 100 m tall and stands upon a base pedestal and a lotus platform, each 10 m high. The monument is, e.g., three times taller and thirty times larger in volume than the Statue of Liberty. The base pedestal contains several ceremonial rooms, while the lotus platform contains a single room where a great number of "Tainaibutsus" (miniature Buddha statues) are placed. There are two observatory floors at the 80 and 85 m levels served by two elevators and by stairs.
