The U.S. Highway 50 bridge just east of North Vernon, Ind., is one of the first applications in this country of the precast, prestressed concrete box girder design erected without falsework. This project points up engineering skills and progress so well that it competed for the 1976 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award. The elimination of all falsework minimized damage to the land and river crossed by the bridge. Precasting reduced erection time about 20%. |
