Abstrait:

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has been using a variety of materials and procedures to improve durability of bridge structures. Epoxy-coated reinforcement has been used since 1981 with no obvious distress noted to date. In recent years, over 8,000 metric tons of coated reinforcement have been placed each year. Most of the coated steel is used in bridge decks in areas where deicing agents are used during freezing weather. A comprehensive approach to corrosion protection, with the use of epoxy-coated reinforcement, Type II cement and an inorganic corrosion inhibitor should extend the life of the new structures well beyond that of similar structures lacking added protection.
