The George S. Eccles 2002 Legacy Bridge, completed in December 2001, is a dramatic pedestrian overpass on the campus of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, USA. It is an asymmetrical single pylon cable-stayed bridge with a main span length of 51,8 m and a side span length of 36,6 m. The concrete deck width is 6,75 m. The deck is supported by ten pairs of 50 mm diameter galvanized structural strand stays. The slender A-shaped pylon with 914 mm diameter legs is fabricated from steel tubing. The deck is supported by two edge beams consisting of fabricated steel boxes and the floor beams are of structural tubing. This article covers the planning and design process; bridge delivery; detailed design, seismic analysis and construction and stay stressing. |
