The Qi Ao highway bridge, is part of a plan to link the cities of Zhuhai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong at the mouth of the Pearl River. The total length of the Qi Ao Bridge is 1267 m. The main span is a cable-stayed prestressed concrete box girder structure with a single semi-harp cable plane; the approach spans on either side of the main span are continuous prestressed concrete girders with twin parallel single-cell box decks. Since the Qi Ao Bridge is located in a typhoon area, its stability under loads from gusting winds, both during construction and in service, has been of great concern. |
