Abstrait:

The story of how highway planners and engineers in Washington State’s Department of Transportation were stopped from building a highway and viaduct through a pristine wilderness is presented. An alternative plan which opponents would deem environmentally compatible was necessary. The basic issue: environmentalists didn’t want a highway built through a pristine, wilderness area. The problem was resolved by redesigning the highway, making it a beautiful, elevated roadway and constructing it with minimal disruption to the forest. This project was a nominee for the Outstanding Engineering Achievement of the year.
