Recent research conducted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has explored the issues involved in designing and construction habitats on the surface of Mars through a simultaneous consideration of structural engineering and architecture. The goal was to design self-sustaining habitats for humans living in extreme conditions in an effort to facilitate the development of a viable community that would be safe, efficient, and capable of expansion. This project represents a collaborative effort in which civil and aerospace engineers are working with architects to propose a possible solution for structural design on Mars. |
