The arch is a unique structural form for the expression of force flow and aesthetic appearance. Although the term Architecture is perhaps derived from the very concept of the arch itself, modern science and engineering have developed to a point where the form and the use of the arch can be greatly expanded. With modern materials and techniques, engineers can develop beyond conventional arches into new concepts to serve specified functions and to cover large spaces. |
