Chronology
| 22 April 2001 | A lone pilot, Gilbert Paquette, crashes with his Cessna 150 into the tower and is killed. The fuselage of the plane remains wedged in the upper part of the tower, with the pilot's body inside, while the tower is knowcked several meters off balance. Due to the structural damage and the need to recover the pilot's body the mast would needs to be demolished. Several days later this is accomplished by controlled implosion, not damaging any of the nearby buildings. It is the tallest structure to be explosively demolished at the time. |
