Abstract: Concrete construction along the seaboard of the Arabian Gulf is showing an alarming degree of deterioration within a span of 10 to 15 years. Corrosion of reinforcement associated with concrete spalling outweighs other causal factors. The paper describes the methodology of condition surveys and sampling of concrete from field structures. Spalled area is measured by a photogrammetric technique and evaluations of cover, chloride content, electrical resistivity and concrete quality show strong correlation between these factors and the extent of rebar corrosion deterioration.
