The Yi Sun-sin Bridge is a three-span suspension bridge links the Yeosu National Industrial Complex to the Gwangyang International Port in South Korea. This bridge, currently under construction, will be the first constructed long span suspension bridge with a center span over 1000m in Korea. The bridge consists of twin box girder with a main span of 1545m, two main cables 700mm in diameter, two concrete pylons 270m in height, and rock-anchored and gravity-type anchorage. In order to open the bridge temporarily before the world EXPO to be held in Yeosu in May of 2012, the construction period should be reduced by five months. To reduce the construction period, the legs of the pylon were constructed using a slip-form method and precast cross-beams were installed by means of a heavy lifting method. This paper presents the construction planning of pylons to improve the speed of the slip-form work. In addition, geometry control of the pylons, the concrete supply system and the erection of the cross-beams between the pylons as constructed by the heavy lifting method are briefly discussed with their field applications for the accelerated construction plan. |
