Abstrakt:

The “Centenario” bridge is a critical infrastructure for mobility in Seville (Spain). The project addresses the replacement of the 88 stay cables of the bridge, which after 30 years of operation show signs of deterioration, for new stay cables with the most modern technology. The new stay cables are installed outside the current section, by means of the lateral widening of the pylons and the incorporation of a steel structure under the current deck to transfer the loads to the new cables. The steel structure consists of a series of transverse steel ribs under the current deck at the stays anchor sections. The longitudinal concrete box girders of the existing deck rest on these ribs, and then to the new stays anchored at both ends of these ribs. A lattice transfers the horizontal component of the forces of the stays from the metal ribs where the new cables are anchored to the old concrete deck. Additionally, this configuration allows an extra traffic lane.
