Matlab Uttar – Gazaria Bridge is an 1850 m long bridge in Bangladesh, with a cable stayed main span of 400 m. The location of the bridge requires facing a multiple risk scenario. Firstly, monsoon climate causes yearly floods, constraining construction activities. The rivers’ course varies significantly with the years, and large scouring at the foundations needs to be considered. Typhonic winds are relatively frequent. The bridge is in an active seismic risk area. Also, the navigation traffic requires a 10 000 DWT vessel impact scenario. The design of a long span cable stayed bridge with such set of risks requires an adequate approach with a thorough analysis of the reliability, stablishing several risk levels for each hazard and defining an adequate simultaneity assessment. |
