The paper will form the second in a series of papers on the NSP Arnhem Public Terminal Hall, a project to improve the city’s position in the rail network in the Netherlands and Europe. It will discuss the structural concept of the terminal hall and adjacent office building, as well as the used analysis methods in the design and engineering, of the first phase which is currently under construction and the second phase which is currently under tender. The concrete roof structure utilises the combined principles of flexural stiff slabs and axially stiff shells. The concrete load-bearing elements, additionally featuring the concrete beam grid of the balcony, form a single monolithic concrete structure. With all adjacent construction interconnected, structural elements are often shared between buildings, joining engineering and architecture, making coordination between all the parties involved essential. |
