This paper deals with the seismic response of low- and mid-rise reinforced concrete (R/C) frames equipped with proportional hysteretic dampers. For this purpose, nonlinear dynamic analyses are carried out on a series of frame models that consider a wide range of mechanical properties of dampers. The mechanical properties of dampers are defined according to a proportion rule that aims for the explicit control of the yield deformation of dampers. The results of analysis show that the seismic performance of the structure is noticeably improved after installing damper according to the proportion rule presented. The improvement of seismic performance is given especially by the relative constant distribution over the building height of the reduction in proportion of story drift demand and seismic damage in the R/C frame after damper installation, which clearly indicates a controlled protection to the R/C frame. |
