Abstrakt:

The conventional methods of construction are the dominant techniques for today’s bridge construction practice. However, such methods may impose significant disruptions to traffic. An innovative technique, the Rapid Bridge Replacement (RBR), was used for the superstructure replacement of the overpass at Highway 400 & Finch Avenue West as part of the Finch West LRT (FWLRT) project. This safe and efficient method cut down the two years of staged construction to two 55-hour weekend closures, reducing the impact to traffic and the community, and ultimately contributing to a smaller environmental footprint for the project. On June 22nd, 2020, at 5 a.m., the new bridge opened to unrestricted traffic, marking the successful on-schedule completion of the bridge replacement.
