In 123-story Lotte World Tower in Seoul, for constructability, concrete mega column is constructed by using auto-climbing forms without conventional column-to-beam connections. Instead, after the completion of the concrete work in the column, steel beams are attached to the face of the mega column by using shear connectors. Particularly, a belt truss, which transfers a huge gravity load to the mega column, is connected to the mega column by a large number of shear connectors distributed along four stories. In the present study, small scale specimens were tested to evaluate the performance of the shear connectors. The load-carrying capacity and deformation of the shear connectors were evaluated on the basis of the test results. To predict the strength of the shear connectors, various design methods were applied, and their validity was evaluated. |
