Although the fire accidents in the bridge usually don’t cause fatality due to the ease of the prompt withdrawing, traffic on bridges damaged by fire is usually hard to detour and affects the traffic network. However, currently effective evaluation of fire resistance performance is not available. In this paper, two levels of fire hazards, together with the corresponding required structural performance, are first presented by focusing on safety and serviceability for steel bridges. Then the assessment for structural members is proposed. The temperature is chosen as the evaluation index, by comparing the highest temperature caused by fire and the critical resistant temperature. Succeedingly, the evaluation for the entire bridge carries out deflection and temperature analysis incorporating the structural redundancy. Various scenarios, including the fire location and fire scale, are investigated to obtain the general methodology for the evaluation. |
