Abstrakt: |
A footbridge has always been the object of experimentation when it comes to innovation in bridge forms. The prime reason behind this is the lighter loads it is required to carry. This flight of imagination may go wrong if the psychology and responsive behaviour of the user as well as structure is not given due consideration as happened for Millennium Bridge, London. Vehicle impact on support structure of such a light structure could be fatal to pedestrians using the footbridge. This paper talks about the development of footbridges from concept to execution, of aesthetically appealing structural form, guided by the two primary constraints mentioned above. |
