High-performance steel for bridges with a ultimate tensile stress of 800MPa(HSBⓇ800) was recently developed in Korea. By applying the TMC(thermo-mechanical control) process and optimizing chemical composition, HSBⓇ800 can be produced to have not only high strength but also high toughness and good weldability. In general, welding is needed to join HSBⓇ800 plates in fabricating a plate girder. The welding process results in high residual stress which influences the inelastic buckling strength of structures. In the previous research, the typically used residual stress models have been applied to investigate the behaviour of a structure having a ultimate stress of 800MPa without any verification. Therefore, in this study, the characteristics of residual stress in welded structures with HSBⓇ800 was investigated by the sectioning method and a new residual stress distribution model for HSBⓇ800 was proposed. |
