This paper presents results of an ongoing research project whose objective is the development of a 12.0 m long pedestrian bridge made of glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) pultruded profiles connected to a thin slab of steel fibre reinforced self-compacting concrete (SFRSCC). The main advantages of such GFRP-SFRSCC hybrid structural system are its lightness, easy installation and intrinsic durability. The bridge prototype was designed based on analytical and numerical investigations that are described in this paper. The experimental campaign includes (i) material characterization tests, (ii) shear connection tests between SFRSCC slabs and GFRP profiles and (iii) static and dynamic load tests on a 6.0 m long small-scale model of the footbridge. |
