The authors propose to replace a reinforced concrete (RC) slab with a cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor panel as a method to increase the use of timber in moderate- or large-scale buildings. The advantages of using CLT floor panels are as follows: 1) the weight of the building is reduced, 2) an environmental value is established, 3) forest resources are effectively utilized, and 4) there is a contribution in solving the global environmental problem. A floor effects the enhancement of flexural stiffness and strength of steel beams; hence, for a robust building structure, the authors must focus on and dynamically solve all structure performance problems. In addition, it is necessary to investigate the method of connection of steel beams and CLT floor panels. Push-out shear tests and pure bending tests were conducted to investigate the structural performance of CLT and composite steel beams. The test results indicated that the CLT and steel composite beam showed good structural performance. |
