Design concepts were drawn up for the planned junction of two streets on the outskirts of Szczecin, a city located in north-western Poland. The concepts include a new pedestrian bridge which is required to utilise two water pipes on an existing technical bridge. This paper presents the design concept for a steel truss footbridge with two decks, one for pedestrians and the second for urban utilities. The footbridge will be built following the demolition of the technical bridge while keeping the pipes in service. The footbridge will be located over the main street which, after reconstruction, will become a dual carriageway urban thoroughfare connecting the centre of the city with its south-eastern districts and a nearby motorway. The footbridge will connect a small urban district with a village in a neighbouring county. The new footbridge will be built with a single span of 39.6 m in length, with no intermediate supports. The upper composite deck is designated for pedestrians and cyclists, with the steel deck underneath for urban utilities. The steel truss girders of the new superstructure will be constructed from steel tubes with curved top chords. The supports for the new pedestrian bridge will be located within the line of the RC retaining walls. The level of the upper deck is adjusted to the existing terrain levels to improve access. All works require carrying out under road traffic as no detour is available.
