Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is a well-known construction material worldwide and is often used in the delivery of modern construction projects. Its benefits include faster construction, better quality finishes and reduced labour requirements (amongst others). It was however identified that even experienced South African contractors do not fully understand the benefits of this "new" concrete and are thus reluctant to subscribe to its use. This article discusses several options to bridge the above gap in the construction industry, before focussing on the use of short, on-site training videos for further evaluation. The video survey results are very positive and it is thus recommended that more of these educational videos be made to address other construction aspects. |
