The use of post-tensioning concrete in building satructures

The use of post-tensioning concrete in building structures is unusual in Spain. This is not so in other technologically advanced countries, where its very frequent. In this article, the possibilities and advantages of the use of post-tensioning in slabs amd silgular elementsof building structures are analized. The progress to which this respect represents the recognition of partial prestressing is stated. Specific examples of the application of the post-tensioning technique in singular buildings are shown, and from there, the conclusions that there are neither technical nor economical reasons which prevent the general use of the procedure is drawn.
