Torre Sacyr-Vallehermoso. Building structure

At 236 m in height, the Sacyr-Vallehermoso tower is one of the four high-rise buildings constructed on the site of the former Real Madrid Sports Complex, in the Paseo de la Castellana of Spain?s capital. The structure of the building combines composite slabs supported on a grid of steel and/or composite joists with a system of high-strength composite steel-concrete supports. Apart from these basic elements, there are also strong structural elements that allow supports in the lower part of the tower to be eliminated, as well as a foundation mat in prestressed concrete and a core that withstands the wind loads in combination with an outrigger. The structural system established has led to the design of a tremendously simple structure that uses all the advantages afforded by the geometric repetition of the floor plan of the building. It combines the answer to the challenges presented by the construction of a high-rise building and the optimisation needed to ensure that the construction schedule and the cost remain moderate and compatible with the objectives of the building. The collaboration during the project preparation stage between the teams involved in the execution has allowed the important construction requirements associated to a project of this magnitude to be monitored closely.
