The new Velodrome is directly connected to a station on the city's rail transit system, the S-Bahn. Next to it, the new Swim Sport Stadium and two additional facilities create an exceptional venue for national and international sporting events. The Velodrome has a capacity of 10,000 seats, of which 6,000 are permanently installed. The Swim Sport Stadium has a central pool with a volume of 50 x 25 x 3 m and a pool for diving competitions with a volume of 21 x 25 x 5 m. The basic idea of the architect was to imbed the two large sport halls into the ground in an urban park planted with 500 apple trees, so that their roofs will look like lakes in a forest. |
