To achieve a broader use of solar energy, the gap between production sites and end-users - between supply and demand, both in time and space - must be considered. Energy storage is the critical aspect in resolving this gap. Solar energy cannot be stored directly. It must be converted into storable forms called energy carriers. An ideal energy carrier would have a form that allows it to be stored under ambient temperature and pressure conditions. Researchers around the world are investigating ways to improve energy carriers. |
