The design of the 'La-Ferté-Steg' at Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen is the result of an interdisciplinary bridge competition. The bridge is an example of successful cooperation between engineers and architects. An asymmetric bridge design is appropriate for the special site constraints - a slope on one side and a wide and almost flat meadow on the other. The slender girder passes the main clearance of 28,5 m with two tramway tracks in the middle by fixing it into a shear wall on the sloped-side. A special feature is the in plan view curved and in the longitudinal direction with 6% sloped T-beam superstructure without any joints and bearings. The circular form allows the support of the girder by 6 very slender steel columns at mid-axis, which enhances the transparency under it. |
