As early as 1936 a proposal was prepared for the bridging of resund between Zealand and Sweden, but further progress was interrupted by World War Two. After the war, higher priority was given to other projects, principally the Great Belt Link between the islands Funen and Zealand. With the Great Belt Link firmly on track, negotiations with the Swedish government concerning an resund Link were resumed, and in March 1991 a treaty was ratified calling for the construction of a road and rail link between Copenhagen on Zealand and Malmö in Sweden. With construction activities starting in 1995, the link is scheduled to be opened in 2000. |
