The Korsvägen Science Centre (Korsvägen-Vetenskapscentrum; KVC) is a joint venture between the University of Gothenburg, the City of Gothenburg and the surrounding counties. The KVC is built up of five parts with different functions and designs. This paper will present the parts that are made of glulam structures, namely the exhibition area and the saw-tooth-shaped roof above the rainforest, which cantilevers over the street facade. A comparison was carried out in order to evaluate the use of a steel truss roof instead of the glulam one, and it was found that glulam was the most environmentally suitable material. |
