Abstrakt:

The I-895 Bridge is located south of Richmond Virginia and is part of the Pocahontas Parkway, connecting the south east part of the city to the airport area. The new highway is the first construction under Virginia's Public Private Transportation Act of 1995 and was developed by a joint venture in partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation. A non-profit group manages the USD 330 million financing (for the entire project) which will be repaid by the tolls. The bridge was opened to traffic in September 2002. The main structures include two twin bridges over the James River, the eastbound and the westbound, the east and the west Approach to the bridge and four interchange ramps at the west side. One of the 4 ramps is to be constructed at a later date. The main span is 205 m with a vertical clearance of 44 m to allow for ship navigation to the close Richmond Terminal. The bridge is the third longest of its kind in North America.
