Forton Lake Opening Bridge is a 170-m-long structure, primarily designed for use by pedestrians and cyclists, but which also carry a road train and emergency service vehicles. The project contains a number of innovative features, including a procurement strategy that has been developed to unify the supply chain around the common goal of achieving a bridge worthy of the description "millennial". Funds generated from the UK National Lottery with which to celebrate the new millennium, together with the release of Ministry of Defence land, created opportunity to build an innovative and architecturally pleasing bridge as part of a scheme to give people greater access to their history. |
