The authors write about the cable spinning process used in the Great Belt East Bridge project in Denmark. The bridge, when completed, will be the largest suspension bridge in the world. Birdsall and Celis write about the history of air-spinning cable technology starting with its development, by John Roebling on the Brooklyn Bridge, up through the most recent advancements incorporated in this project. Through refinements in the process, engineers on this project were able to spin more cable, over a greater distance, faster than ever before. |
