Abstrakt:

The Avedøre Unit 1 Power Plant is a Combined Heat and Power facility near Copenhagen. It is an important part of the power supply system for Copenhagen and surrounding municipalities. The architectural design of the plant creates the impression of man-made hill rising above the flat beaches and meadows. It both complements the flat coastal landscape and provides a distinctive architectural accent. In clear weather the complex is visible from a distance of almost 30 km. Instead of packaging the power station's many components in a series of separate box-like buildings, as is the custom, the architects chose to employ two tent-like shelters which span the entire processing complex. The design creates the impression of an integrated unit with its own identity, including its smoke purification plant and other facilities surrounding the unit.
