Abstrakt:

Flue gas emission is an unavoidable part of thermal power plants and its disposal has to be seriously considered by power station planners, to minimize its adverse effects on the environment. Even though electrostatic precipitators are employed, the flue gases have to be discharged at fairly high levels to ensure proper dispersion of concentrations in the atmosphere. To this effect, the heights of chimneys, which are used for disposing the flue gases, have been increasing over the years with the growing awareness of ecology. The 220 m tall reinforced concrete chimney at Anpara Thermal Power Station is a typical example.
