This article was presented at the opening session of the International Symposium on Aerodynamics of Large Bridges in Copenhagen in February 1992. The author suggests a new design philosophy by introducing an active control system to counteract the self-induced aerodynamic forces on streamlined box girders, and thus achieve complete stability for all spans. |
