Abstrait:

It has been suggested that it takes several concurrent problems to cause a collapse and the failure presented in this article supports that view. A steel silo designed to carry sinter fines plunged down 20 m, destroying several floors on the way. It was reported that the collapse in Algeria in 1974 was initiated by the failure at one of the connections to the supporting beams and subsequent investigation aimed at finding out why that connection had failed.
