Abstract:

Some remarks concerning the application of the safety concept according to EC3 for the design of steel cables

Compared with the former regulations for cable structures that are prestressed against stiffness, the safety concept of DIN EN 1993-1-11 for design and construction of steel tension members results in larger and less economic cross sections for cables and clamps. The following text debates the question whether the use of this design concept is reasonable for all types of cable structures.
